In my earlier years of healthy eating, I adjusted several things in my diet. Two of the biggest changes I made were increased water and reduced salt. I think most people will agree that those are healthy lifestyle choice.
My water intake is around 12 -16 cups of water a day. This is technically much higher than what is recommended for my body weight (7.5 cups) but I believe that drinking this much water has improved several things for me.
- Reduced headaches and reduced severity of headaches
- Clearer Skin
- Improved digestion
- Boosted immune system
- And overall I just feel cleaner.
It did take some getting used to, I was running to the bathroom a lot the first few days but believe me, your body will adjust. I have been drinking this amount of water for almost 2 ½ years now and I am very happy with my health.
The only issue with my increased water intake was my decrease in salt. I started noticing I wasn’t sleeping well, I was always tired and I oddly felt thirsty all the time. I started doing some research and realize that it was probably my lack of salt and eating the wrong salt.
Salt is not something that your body makes so it is up to you to add the right salts into your diet. When you eat the right type of salt it helps your body regulate water, absorb certain nutrients, balance PH, and remove toxins.
The issue with salt is that most people are eating table salt. Table salt has been refined and in this process, most of the minerals that are helpful to your body have been removed. This leaves you with an altered version of Sodium Chloride. There are also chemicals that are sometimes added to salt that has been known to be hazardous. Salt has been named the culprit for many health issues because of this.
This is why I have switched to Pink Himalayan Salt which is salt in its purest form. While Pink Himalayan salt is largely Sodium Chloride it is natural Sodium Chloride and over 80 other minerals that are vital to your health.
