Take The Day Off

Posted on January 30, 2017

It goes without fail that at least once a year you will find yourself with a cold. The headaches, sore throat, chills and lack of sleep can leave you feeling miserable and sometimes they linger for quite a while. Because of their lack of severity we normally just go about our everyday lives and let ourselves suffer through the symptoms.

I won’t get on my soap box about modern medicine but let’s just say, I respect it from a far distance. I can’t remember the last time I took any medicine and I will pretty much try 100 natural things before resorting to a pill. So, before you start spending money on bottles of cold medicine let’s think about what your body really needs.

The common cold is a virus that spreads very quickly from person to person and you are most susceptible to this virus when you are tired or under stress. So what does that mean? It means you need to rest! Drink water, up the vitamin C, drink more water and take a day off for some you time J.

Yesterday I woke up with that awful feeling, I was getting a cold. That is the last thing you want at the end of your weekend. I knew I didn’t have time to recover and the impending work week was coming.

So, I emailed my boss, cleared my day and cut off my phone. Falling asleep last night I had no Monday stress. I slept like a baby and got a whopping 12 hours of sleep that my body seriously needed. I woke up this morning feeling like a million buck and have successfully done nothing but make breakfast and coffee. It feels amazing!

To some people, the thought of taking off work is more stressful than relaxing. I say to you…you need to take the day off more than anyone J

I take my work seriously and I am not lazy but at the end of the day, your health and happiness are number one. You can’t do your job if you aren’t mentally prepared and you can’t do your job if you are sick.

I am less than 2 days into my cold and it is already at its end. I achieved that with just a little boost in Vitamin C, A LOT of water and some much-needed rest. I am no doctor but I’d say those results are pretty darn good!
